Well just ask the hipsters who are flocking to these neighborhoods in droves and rennovating everything... see what they say.

Well time will only tell. Your theory makes sense, but it's definately not what I see on day to day basis, could all change though in the near future.

I would guess that maybe 10-15% of the people "gentrifying" Chicago neighborhoods are truly Yuppies or Hipsters. It's kind of a silly beef to have. But many are the Yuppie/Hipster/Middle Class hybrid known as a BoBo, and I probably fall into that category to some degree.

Lk, good point -- Bobo's are a different crowd altogether.

Anyone who hasn't read Bobo's in Paradise (by David Brooks) really ought to. it's informative, interesting, and really quite hilarious.

Brooks pretty accurately described about 75% of the people I know in Chicago with that book. But if you're a Bobo, it's healthy to at least have some self awareness of the fact so you can avoid being a total prick. Combine Bobos in Paradise with a synopsis of Richard Florida's "Creative Class" book (it's not worth a full read since Florida just repeats the same idea 100 times), and you've got a pretty clear picture of who is gentrifying Chicago.

Default Who is Gentrifying Chicago

People like me

Though I maybe a little more aggressive than most as I am looking to buy up a lot of buildings, not just a few and will most likely not sell but add as I go along.

How do you raise the capital for that? Is it all from your personal salary?

Just curious... No need to answer if you don't want to.
