I did read the previous posts, and he didn't specify which taxes he was referring to. I still made a mistake by not referring to it as sales taxes, but the mistake seems to still be mine, so I accept it.. no need to pounce on me.

Hey, sorry about jumpin' on your case, but your post, as written, was contradicted by multiple prior posts. Just goes to demonstrate the downsides of carrying online discussions with anonymous strangers. All is forgiven.

Missouri state taxes

If you make more than 9k (minus exemptions), you are taxed at a top rate of 6%. If you work or live in St. Louis, you pay an additional income tax of 1%. So a total of 7% versus 3% in Chicago. Obviously, the exact amount you pay will depend on exemptions, deductions, etc.

Roughly speaking, if you early 50k, you'll pay an extra $2000 in income tax in St. Louis versus Chicago. Assuming a sales tax of 9.24% in St Louis (Missouri Sales Taxes), you'll need to make $200k in annual purchases of goods (not services) to pay more in combined sales and income tax in Chicago versus St. Louis. Of course, it'll be difficult to purchase 200k in goods if your salary is 50k. YMMV.
Thank you for explaining. That makes perfect sense.

Yeah, so is city-data. That's why this forum exists -- to share information with others. Thanks for the worthless comment though!

We tend to share information and ideas that are specific to this region and/or cannot be easily ascertained with a 90-second Google search, which someone else graciously did for you because you were too lazy to do it yourself.

Not too lazy, jackoff. Too busy.

But, again, thanks for your worthless comment. If you have anything of substance to add (I'm guessing you don't), please do. Otherwise, buzz off.

Not too busy to bicker with me for 15 minutes, but too busy to spend 90 seconds looking Missouri's income tax structure on Google? You need to improve your time-management skills. We give generously of our time here to help people, but we tire easily of time-wasting morons who take advantage of that generosity because they're "too busy" to find easily ascertainable information. Especially mouthy ones who just signed up.

Don't like what I have to say? Don't read it. Easy solution. Much easier than trying to get me to "buzz off."

Wow, you're just a bundle of joy aren't you? Is this typically how you spend your evenings? Perusing forums on here and looking for things to complain about? Sorry pal, but people don't need your approval to post here. And wow, you have nearly 10K posts in two years... maybe it's best that you step away from the forum for a short while.

And maybe its best you MYOFB. Do us a favor, and go back to being "too busy."
