I just found a posting for a fabulous apartment in Logan Square. Now, I have read the other postings telling me that if you are going to stay in Logan Square, it is safer to stay closer to Logan Blvd. Do you think it would be ok for me as a single woman to live at 3500 West Palmer? Do you think the neighborhood has improved enough for me to do so? I don't know a lot about that neighborhood besides it is supposed to be "up and coming." Is there a lot of gang activity over there? Thank you all for your input.

Not a lot of gang activity, none around Palmer. Palmer has a very active community watch that helps stop that...

I think it depends on what you're used to. I live about 7-8 blocks east of there and I'd say it'd be fine for someone used to random city crap, but I don't know if I'd let a girl walk around there late at night alone. I don't know that area tremendously well, but I think the bigger problem with where you've mentioned is that you'd be kind of annoyingly far from the train...

no bangers here today. Not going to be either... Also, Plamer is right off the california blue line or the LS blue line to the west...

The area where the OP is talking about is a good mile from either of those stations, and the Logan Square station is to the northeast of there. That address is 3 blocks west of the western edge of Palmer Square itself. It's gotten somewhat better, but it's still sketchy, and it gets worse west of Central Park, which is only a block west of that address.
