Heck yeah, this is awesome! Good sleeping weather, and it keeps the cost down from not having to run the A/C.

Drover and Lookout have it right. . . window unit if possible would be good, be CERTAIN that your windows open for ventilation. . . most of the elderly that die during the really hot summers live in flats where the the windows have been "painted shut" so many times that they cannot be opened. Also, if you are near the lake, it is a lot cooler.

Steve-o - we all know that antifreeze flows through your veins, but it is 47 degrees outside today, and some of us find that a bit chilly.

I have experience in a small studio apartment on the fourth floor - I generally am a/c averse but on a high floor a window a/c will definitely be needed, if only at night to get the humidity out of the air. Remember that in most apartments you won't have the benefit of cross-ventilation... You can find used ones very cheaply on craigslist if you don't want to pay full price.

You need A/C. Central is better (cools more evenly and efficient), but a window unit will suffice. The problem is not so much the heat, but the humidity. It's only about 80 today, but I have my air on at 78, just to cut through the humidity. Also, having the windows open lets in the clouds of pollen blowing around, which is piling up along the curbs like snow.

Regardless of what some think, it can get very hot in Chicago. If it lasts a day or two its not too bad but when it drags on for weeks...
88 was brutal.

This year looks like a bad one. I do not know if it will be as bad as 88 or 95 but it looks like it will be up there.
