My oldest kid is high functioning, but has a lot.of social issues, and isn't an academic high achiever. Our neighborhood high school is so so at best, and has a downright terrible record with special needs kids, so we're looking for a good high school for him. By "good" I don't mean academically rigorous - he struggles academically and we don't expect him to suddenly become a top student. We just want a school that has a good understanding of autism, flexibility, and compassion. That is the most important thing for us. Anyway, it's difficult to search for high schools based on this criteria so I thought I'd ask here. I really need the input of other SPED parents about their high school experiences!

IPSD 204. Waubonsie/Metea

People move into this district for this reason. Neuqua is another HS in this district but it's extremely high achieving and rich. Waubonsie and Metea are more diverse that way, and have the same services.

My friend has a son that is also high functioning. He did well at Taft. He tried private schools and ended up at Taft. He is now a sophomore in college at Marquette and doing well.
