Hello far. I think $1200 should be enough for all living costs although it can largely depend on your life style. I have lived in on campus housing for 3 semesters, and I will be moving out for the summer. My apt is located in bronzeville and is quite close to the campus (about 3 min walk). I pay $800 excluding the utilies, but the place is big and is furnished. You can probably find a cheaper place. On campus housing is not too bad especially if you are a new student. I think all the utilities as well as internet is included if you live on campus. By the way, this is a personal opinion but I also think that it is not a good idea to rent an apartment sight unseen.

Hi Meursault, unfortunately they said graduate students could not apply for on campus living. So, I think I should rent a an unseen studio based on remote infos!

Hmm. That is strange. How about you ask if "graduate apartments" are available? Housing office might be thinking if you were referring to on campus housing for undergraduate students.
