Studio apartment for around $800-900 (Chicago, North Chicago: apartment complexes, neighborhoods, utilities)

Hi Guys,

This is my first post here, and I have found many of your comments to be very helpful. However, I have not spend much time in Chicago, and I am lost in the sea of available apartments in various neighborhoods, etc.

In any case, here's my story: My wife and I are just coming back from overseas, and we are looking for a place in the U.S. to settle. We decided on Chicago after quite a bit of research, but we are not sure exactly where we would like to live. We are pretty sure that we would like to live in the area north or northwest of downtown, though. That would include (but certainly not limited to) Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Uptown, North Center, Lincoln Square, etc.

We don't have jobs at the moment, so we are just moving there with our savings, and we will be finding jobs upon arrival. Therefore, choosing a place with a close proximity to our jobs is not possible at this time.

As far as neighborhoods go, we would like a place that is relatively quiet and laid back. We don't mix well with a younger crowd, and we don't really have much interest in loud, crowded hipster bars and so forth. All we are really looking for is a safe, clean area with good public transit options around North Chicago and downtown area. We will not have a car.

I've looked around a lot at apartment reviews online and info on this site, but it is hard to find particular apartment complexes are management companies that I feel like I can trust.

If you guys could give any suggestions about the neighborhood that might fit our lifestyle (based on the above) and any specific apartment complexes are property management companies that you could recommend, that would be very helpful to us.

Budget is about 800 not including utilities or 900 including utilities. We are looking only for studios.

I realize that there is a lot of information here in old posts, and I've read a lot of them. But I hoped that a few people could offer more personalized suggestions. If you need any more info, please let me know.

Neighborhoods along the brown line sound right for you. North Center, Roscoe Village, even Albany Park if you're OK with living further out. You will be able to find a studio or even a 1br in your price range.

Thanks for your input. You don't happen to have any suggestions for particular management companies or apartment buildings would you (or those to avoid)?
