my boyfriend is interviewing for a position for his company located in Glenview around the intersection of lehigh ave and E Lake Ave.

We are moving together in mid June and we really dont want to bring a car. Are there any public transportation that will get him to and from the office from downtown? We looked at the Metra and saw that there is a Glenview stop, is there a bus that can take him there?

Thanks!

It is a huge hassle to get from the city to the burbs via public transit in almost every town. That section of Glenview is maybe one of the few exceptions -- there is a Metra station WALKING DISTANCE from the office plaza over there. If that is the place he is going work YOU ARE IN LUCK -- if the office is more than 3/4 mile of so you are outa options, especially if he doesn't want to start the day looking / smelling like he is homeless.

Funny thing is I think the google link must be to satellite from BEFORE the office plaza was built but AFTER the parking went in : lehigh and lake glenview, IL - Google Maps

@chet - 'cause it's all about Metra, the world's crappiest commuter rail, eh? Learn to acknowledge the possibility of PACE, vagrantphobe.

@maxwellimus - Please consider the following two options:

1.) Take the Blue Line to the Harlem stop between Cumberland and Jefferson Park (not the one by Forest Park). There, he can board northbound PACE bus #423, which stops at the exact intersection you mentioned.

2.) Take the Purple Line Express to the very end, i.e. Linden. He can board a southbound #423, which will pass through Lake and Lehigh also.

The schedule and map for PACE Route #423 are as follows: if you've got further questions, feel free to ask.

I have nothing against Pace -- it is a moderately useful way to get from some malls and such to some train stations and such. Of course since buses are SIGNIFICANTLY slower than cars you'd be crazy to waste that much time commuting, might jeopardize your relationship/employment

The most serious problem is that when we have even a little snow and you get dropped off in front of some poor excuse for a bus shelter that has the plowing from the street blocking it and there is no sidewalk and you have to walk even a short distance YOU COULD GET KILLED.
Even if there is a sidewalk I can almost guarantee that it won't be shoveled.

Further if is HOT & HUMID and you are walking around that largely treeless section of Glenview you are going to sweat a lot. THAT is what will the OP's boyfriend look/smell like a homeless person.

BTW are you a vagarantophile or merely a connoisseur of eau de vagrant? Most office works are not so appreciative.

Now if they were asking about a bus to Oak Park or even Northbrook there ARE some better options, as the layout in the section of Glenview that they are talking about (which HAS to be the old Naval Air Station and I still think IS walking distance from Metra) is needlessly twisty...
