Hello, here I am seeking help again. My 77 yr. old father is summoned (commanded) to appear on March 10th to be a juror for a Grand Jury Trial. I was just given this info. last night, mother doesn't know what to do either. My father doesn't drive anymore and has numerous medical problems normal to a 77 yr. year old. (diabetes etc.) According to the letter, he needs to appear in order to be excused but there is no way he can get there and I have to work and I don't drive in the city (just recently moved back to Chicago in Dec. and I don't use the highway)

Does anyone know how to contact the circuit court of Cook County via e-mail, phone or fax? To find out if there is any other way to be excused without needing to go to Chicago and appear in person? This is for a Grand Jury and this is different from the other letters, they don't allow you to send a letter explaining why you can't serve.

Sincerely
Home Sweet Home

Tell him to ask to be excused for medical reasons. Chances are they'll grant it without much hassle; at the very worst they may request some documentation of his medical condition.

The last time I got a jury summons, there was a spot right on the form you could fill out to ask for excusal and send it back in. Have you seen the actual summons yet? If not, go check it out and look for it, or have your pop look for it and fill it out if he's able.

I've seen the letter and it's completely different from the ones I've seen in the past. They don't allow you to send in an excused letter. They inform you that you need to appear to be excused. Just wondering if anyone ever experienced this situation.

A bomb threat? Do you really think that comment was funny? I thought this forum was better than this. I didn't think my question was stupid, if you thought it was, then just ignore the question. I didn't get the joke. Please, sky1974, do not reply to my future questions.

Your question wasn't stupid. I suppose I should have been a little less flip in my response, but I was referring to a moron who called in a bomb threat recently here in Chicago to get out of jury duty.

And, no this forum is not better than this. That's what makes it so great.
