Born in Lebanon, PA. Went to college in Philly. Moved here last August after graduating because of a job offer.

Where are you originally from? Why did you move to Chicago (and suburbs)? Do you like it here?

Cleveland, Ohio here. I'd visited Chicago a number of times between 1987 and 1992 and had a vague idea in the back of my mind that maybe I'd like to live here someday. Then in 1994 a friend and I visited the city for five days over Labor Day weekend and that trip clinched the decision for me to move here. My company was headquartered here, and the following year an opportunity for a job promotion came up, and the job was in Chicago. So I moved here in July 1995.

It's a bustling big city, full of life and energy and I find it much more stimulating than my hometown... I like it here overall, although sometimes I get stressed.

Original poster didn't mention persons from Canada....Canadians working in the U.S. under the radar, and not paying U.S. taxes. For obvious (physical) reasons, Canadians never receive attention for being "foreign".

Technically I'm originally from Chicago but I consider myself "from" Georgia more than anything else since my immediate family lives there.

Born in Chicago (the hospital was actually in Park Ridge), lived in Portage Park (near Dunham Park) until I was 7, moved to New Orleans and lived there until I was 14, moved to Atlanta, went to college back in New Orleans for two years, got married and moved to Kirksville, Missouri at 28, moved to Columbia, Missouri 1 1/2 years later and lived there for 7 1/2 years before moving back to Chicago in February.

I have several different accents that I turn on and off depending on the locale. When we honeymooned in New Orleans my wife couldn't understand a word I said when I conversed with the natives.

I've noticed a huge influx of Michigan residents lately. My theory is that this is in large part to the terrible economy in Michigan right now. Anyone care to comment on this?

I am from Michigan...my reason being here isn't the economy, but I will say that it's NASTY. Job hunting where I'm from is a truly depressing experience.

But actually, I went from Michigan to Florida, did two years of college there, came back to Michigan, finished up my BA at Univ. of Michigan, and while I applied for, and was accepted to a few graduate programs in Michigan, I didn't want to live there anymore. I wanted something new. So I accepted the offer from a school here. It's a good compromise, because I do have a lot of personal issues going on back home, and I know that in a few hours' drive I can easily be back there, as opposed to those plane rides and seemingly endless drives from Florida.
