Born and raised in New York City. Then school, work, and a variety of other issues have taken me through Los Angeles, the Bay Area, DC, New Haven, CT, and in a few months, Chicago, IL.

I got homesick like crazy on and off for my entire first year here. Now when I visit my family for more than a week or two, I'm very ready to head back up to Chicago.

The ever so lovely and classy south-suburbs in which an evenings entertainment often consisted of joyriding through the remains of Dixie Square Mall in a 1979 Chevy Impala until the Harvey police chased us away. I told you we were a classy lot down there

Tennessee.

i moved here based on a very complex formula that was based on my hatred of the south, the need to live in a city, and the fact i didn't really want to live on the east or west coast. oh and i still have some family in Michigan.

i love it.

I was born in Wisconsin, lived in NYC for several years, then spent 18 years in DC before moving here. I mainly moved here to be close to my parents, who are getting up there in age. They live in Huntley now, which is still too far away for me, but I don't have a car, so I had to live in the city where I could get by without one.

I've been here for a few months, and so far I don't like it as much as DC. I've been really homesick. Also, DC is smaller and more manageable, and my daily life was easier there. Hopefully, I'll adjust. When I first moved to DC, I missed New York, but after a year or so, I got over it and learned to love DC.

Born in Wisconsin. Lived in Madison, Milwaukee, and a couple of smaller towns. Lived in New York briefly and dated a native for several years. Have also lived briefly in Paris. My Mother's family is all from the Chicago's South Side, South Suburbs, and industrial Northwest Indiana (only the nicest towns).

My favorite American cities are all old and dense. I love New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, DC, and even Philadelphia (which would be great if they could get a handle on the crime). While Chicago has gained a special place in my heart over the past few years, I definitely see it's shortcomings because I have been all over the world and seen what else is out there. However, I also see Chicago unfairly attacked in many ways, and will stand up for it in those circumstances. And it's a really great place for me because of (1) economic opportunity for my wife and I in our chosen fields, (2) close to family who are all spread throughout the upper midwest, and (3) nearly endless stimulation, whether it be through the arts, architecture, or just the hustle and bustle of a large city.

Well, seems like ex-Michiganders here, as well as ex-New Yorkers are leading the poll, with ex-Californians close behind.
