Some add Porter (Indiana),Kendall,Grundy,Kankakee,DeKalb,and Kenosha(Wisconsin).
Some even add even more.
yep, like Walworth County in Wisconsin....whether they like it or not

and its just a very large metro area, it is the third largest city in the country....not wierd at all the metro would extend into the two closest states, since their borders are so near. Wisconsin is only about 50 miles from Chicago (not that most of them WANT to be identified with us...that is another story)

Man, I thought it was just the area bounded by the Magikist signs... Kidding, of course.

When I was a kid, I always loved the term Chicagoland. It made Chicago seem huge and full of mystery. You could never have "Milwaukeeland" for instance. Only a large powerful city could have an entire "land" associated with it! Now I don't even notice it anymore. It may be a little silly, but I like the fact that it's unique to Chicago. There are at least a dozen "Tri-State" Areas out there. Heck, Chicago even has the "Tri-State Tollway", though it strangely only goes through one state. I guess it connects Wisconsin to Indiana.

It is a bit more creative than "Tri-State Area," I'll give you that.

I think Milwaukee should start referring to its metro as "Milwaukeeland," just 'cause it would be kinda funny...

As someone mentioned, NYC metro comprises of NY, Parts of NJ, PA, and CT. National Capital Area (DC) is DC, Northern VA, half of MD, and eastern WV.

And who could forget St. Louis and East St. Louis? Or Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas? Or Detroit/Windsor, which spans a national border.

"Milwaukeeland" is totally gonna catch on. Just wait! It will start with the Mars' Cheese Castle and end at Fond du Lac.

It still holds those qualities for me.

Ive lived here nearly my whole life and it still amazes me just how gargantuan the area is. Ive seen, what, maybe a 1/3 of all the suburbs? Maybe 1/4 of Chicago? And I travel alot, too. The area is huge beyond belief, you could spend a lifetime in the area and not see everything there is to see. Dang, thats kinda depressing if you think about it.

Believe me, us Michiganders definitely do not consider windsor part of the detroit metro area.
