Has anyone had any experiences to share (good or bad) about any of those $5 haircut joints I see all over the place? Is it a case of getting exactly what you pay for or is it a real deal?

I need a haircut before I start work next week, and there seem to be two or three of these places within walking distance.

Are you talking about Supercuts? Places like that? My brother goes to those and gets cheap haircuts and likes em.

I think with those types of places it's really hit or miss.
They pay employees really poorly, so no one stays there if they have an iota of talent.
If you're not picky and you have a very basic haircut it's probably fine, but it's not an area I personally skimp on.

I see you live in Albany Park, I used to live there so I know what places you are talking about. I would only go there if I knew the person who worked there or I was a guy just looking for someone to run over my head with the clippers.

If you do not need much shaping and just trimming only, go with the 5 buck cut-you cant beat it.

Some are really good though , just make sure once you find a good one you tip them well (like 3-5

bucks)...

For $5 you'll get a haircut mostly from a clippers. If you want someone to actually cut the sides of your head with scissors, stay away from the $5 haircut.

I'm ashamed that I know this...

After I posted I found this guy's report. LOL!

I generally get clipper cuts, so I might take a chance on it.

Nick and Betty's right, or Betty and Nicks, what ever it's called? I used to go there on Addison and Milwaukee, next to Shurz High School. Depending on the person, it's hit or miss. When I first went I got a good hair cut, then my second time it sucked, so everytime I went back I would just make sure I got the same person from my first cut.
