I'm attending the French Pastry School next year (226 W Jackson Blvd - South loop I believe) and I can't seem to find anywhere nearby that looks safe and affordable. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for neighbourhoods to look at. I will have a car but parking is expensive at the school so rent would have to be significantly lower to make it worth it (it's about 280$ a month). Classes start at 6:45AM so looking for somewhere safe to navigate early in the morning. Also need the apartment to be furnished & only a 6 month lease... it seems nearly impossible. Any advice is appreciated!

You don't need a car to commute to school, take the train. How much is your rental budget?

The only place I know to[1] fit your short lease, [2] that is most likely petty safe in the early am, [3] and possibly furnished is in the closest suburb to Chicago: Oak Park. I am quite sure there are other places in he Chicago/Cook County area, but I am quite sure I don't know where they are.

Get rid of the car.

I live 2 blocks from your school. And my rent is $315 a month. I have the choice to pay $15 a day, $95 a week, or $315 a month. But you wouldn't want to live in my building, it's an old hotel, shared bathroom, has bedbugs, filled with homeless people, and men only. As far as the South loop neighborhood goes I don't know of any other places cheap. All expensive condos.
