Anything outside of downtown & the Near North Side is pretty laid-back, really. All of the emerging & "hip" neighborhoods are at least 40% hispanic.

I agree with these three, though Logan Square is less and less laid back these days.

Based on that description I would look at Edgewater/Andersonville/Uptown, West Loop or South Loop (if you can afford them), Pilsen, Bridgeport, Hyde Park, and possibly Bucktown or Logan Square. I would steer clear of Wicker Park and anything near the Lake from The Loop to Lakeview.

Unfortunately there are few neighborhoods in Chicago with a great deal of black/white intermingling. It's pretty common for neighborhoods to be either 95% Black or only 5-10%. Among the exceptions are Uptown, South Loop, and Hyde Park. Oak Park (a suburb, but bordering the city and fairly dense/urban as suburbs go) would also qualify.

I'd say you should look at the neighborhoods west of downtown such as Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park, Logan Square (certain parts of it) and probably the area of East Humboldt Park that borders to Ukrainian Village and is pretty close to Wicker Park. Pilsen is not a terrible choice either.

I think this would be more accurate if you said 85% or 90%, but yea there's a lot, but some missed including a some suburbs too:

* South Holland (suburb) - 74.22% (20.46% white)
* Douglas - 72.63% (9.92% white)
* Kenwood - 71.9% (16.5% White)
* Morgan Park - 66.71% (28.71% white)
* Flossmoor (suburb) - 47.77% (46.42% white)
* Ashburn - 46.19% (15.22% White)
* Chicago Heights (Suburb) - 41.53% (38% white)
* Beverly - 34.13% (58.82% white)
* Homewood (Suburb) - 34.13% (59.5% white)
* Forest Park (Suburb) - 32.35% (55.16% White)
* Near West Side - 31.53% (41.99% white)
* Blue Island (Suburb) - 30.81% (41.26% white)
* North Chicago (Suburb) - 29.92% (47.89% white)
* Rogers Park - 26.3% (39.31% white)
* Waukegan (suburb) - 19.18% (46.65% white)
* Evergreen Park (suburb) - 18.66% (74.12% White)
* Evanston (suburb) - 18.09% (65.61% White)
* Edgewater - 14.34% (54.65% white)

etc. If you're talking about nightlife too, many of the clubs whether they're in River North, West Loop, or on the border of Bucktown and Lincoln Park are usually pretty mixed as well.

My first thought was Lincoln Square, or maybe Norwood/Jefferson Park, but perhaps they are't laid back enough..

I'd have agreed with Ukrainian Village 5-10 years ago, and Wicker Park 10-20 years ago, but they're not so laid back now. Even Division Street has all sorts of douchiness going on with its bar scene these days, which is what the OP appears to be wanting to avoid.

I didn't "miss" anything- I assumed the OP is capable of using google if he wanted a complete racial breakdown of every neighborhood and suburb in the metro area. I was just naming some places that might fit the criteria the OP is looking for.

The tone that came through to me was that it was almost the only places in the area and just a few others. If not then I am sorry.
