I don't care much for big cities like Chicago, buy I've been there enough to appreciate it's charm, culture, and ethnic diversity. The WORST place to live? Not hardly. Try living in East St. Louis, or Cairo, or Decatur for awhile.

I just want to ask if living in Illinois is very expensive for, lets say, an avarage person ?
Thanks.

Thanks.

central illinois isn't very expensice. i've lived here my entire life but have been paying my own bills while in college and have managed just fine for nearly four years now. yeah, i have roommates & eat cheaply etc. but i am also 21 & have been working part time. an average person could easily make it around here.

than again, there isn't much to do here w/ the exception of the bars & even that gets old fast. also, depending on where you live some towns around here are dying or becoming more & more ghetto daily. even peoria has gone down hill noticeably in just my four years of college.

Expense is relevant to where you work and live, and what you expect. IF you are a renter then central Illinois is more affordable than Chicago. Real estate taxes are far less in the county. As an adult who has lived more than 50 years, and who has lived in ceap states, there is a world of difference. However if you are looking for Chicago night life anc onvenience you won't find it anywhere outside of Chicago.
