"Solid 4 seasons" means a cold winter!

Here are yesterday's temperatures for Chicago and where I live:

Temps for Feb. 7, 2008...

--------------------------- Max/Min
Chicago, Illinois------------ 27/24
Porter Ranch, California---- 75/40

Now I know that cold weather doesn't bother some people, and some even like it, but how could I go on bike rides when it's 27 degrees?

I'd don't know, you'd have to ask the 5 people I saw riding their bikes to work today.

They must be used to it... I would be frozen solid. I don't go biking when it is 50 degrees or less.

I don't ride much in the winter, but that has more to do with my tires (i ride a road bike, and the skinny tires slip in the snow and slush) than the cold. If you dress for it, the cold is no problem. Burns the eyes a little and you have to layer just right, but it's not so bad. Your body is working hard and that keeps you nice and toasty.

Assuming you were talking about bicycles. If you're talking about motorcycles it's a different story.

Yes, bicycles.

I suppose one can get used to it, but it is so much easier to bike just wearing pants and a T-shirt. I'll probably go for a ride in a few mintues while it is still 69-70 degrees @ 5:25 PM.

You do make a good point, though... if I moved to Chicago for some reason, I would probably still bike because I am so used to it.

People do it all the time, and at even lower temperatures too. I reckon the answer to your question is "by not being a weenie."

^ which is why you're there in the first place and not here

It's all personal tastes. I don't know why some people (not you) say a place is horrible to live and the people are stupid because they personally can't stand that type of weather/urbanity/etc.

Like people in Phoenix who love Phoenix and think Chicago is a pile of crap. Well that's fine to think for you, but who are you to judge everyone else? I don't mind the winter, and I love Chicago - I don't think that makes me a stupid or "wrong" person. I would die if I was stuck living in Phoenix, but obviously people like it, so whatever. Live and let live

I'm from Iowa, and I randomly will read some comments from a few people "warning" everyone to never even dare THINK about moving to Iowa, and then they list out their 15 reasons why it's the worst place on the planet for a human to ever exist. Obviously they had a bad experience or something happened to them, or maybe it's just not the place for them... All you do though, is get other people confused and scared to move to a place when 97% of the other people think it's great with warm, nice, honest, laid back people who just enjoy life. I'm tired of some of these threads getting overrun by a few bitter people who just have it stuck in their heart to attack a certain city/state just because they hate it - and they assume everyone else must hate it as well. Why don't these people move away if they're THAT unhappy!?!?

Anway, sorry, random rant, I'm definitely not directing it towards anyone specific on this thread.

I so agree w/you. I get so tired of all the negative threads also. Find something positive to say, do not post CONSTANT negative remarks. Thought I might add, I LOVE Iowa! My son attended school in the Quad Cities area. So many nice, courteous, friendly people! Love Iowa City too! I would live in Iowa!

I'd move to Iowa just to take part in the caucus but I'll miss the city, so I would have to live in Chicago in that part of the country.
