Yes. Nobody who's responded has said that the Palmer House Hilton would be a bad option.

I stayed at the Palmer House last summer and loved it. Not only is it a nice hotel, it's also very convenient as far as transit goes, with the Red Line and the El having stations right there. I walked to the Field Museum from there, and while it's a hike, it was manageable in good weather. I probably wouldn't have wanted to walk back, though, after all the time spent on my feet in the museum.

I've never been in it, it looks a bit "ehh", but it does have a bar on the ground floor, and at least it isn't a chain. Also, if the trip is personal I figure the OP might not want to spend a fortune if they aren't going to really spend much time in the room.
