I am the CEO of a major consumer electronics corporation. We make computers, portable music players, and have just entered the cell phone market with an insanely great revolutionary product (perhaps you've heard of it?) I get paid $1 per year but I also got a private jet and some stock options a few years back so the perks aren't bad.

I work in Cupertino, CA but secretly live in a non-descript house in Oak Park (hence the jet.)

i think you can research salary stats online pretty easily.

to ask someone what he/she does and salary is a bit offputting and obnoxious.

Well, he/she can ask, but I'm surprised if anyone gives a serious answer.

i think chicago has some of the most competitive wages in the midwest, i lived in chicago 4 about 23 yrs and now in nrth dkota, and the wages up here suck. i mean with out a degree i made 31k when i left chicago as a drafter, in fargo with a 5yr arch you can mke about 22k. and its not just that field only but unless you are a doctor or somthing rare, you are nt gnna get paid as well as living in the chi. I had friends who worked at ford motor stmping plant who were making 28 to 38k with only a high school diploma and ged!!!! the only place in north dakota u can mke that is either stripping or on the oil rigs. which then u either have a great body or the place serves goose or love working 14hr shifts 10days on in the freezing cold.

Three things you never ask a lady (According to my mother):
1) How old are you?
2) How much do you weigh?
3) How much money do you make?

Those questions aren't just rude when directed towards a lady.

Read the online stats.

Oh, and I am a world-class male streetwalker. I make 3,000 an hour. Lousy benefits, though.

Lucky bastard. I only make $2 a day as a scruffy looking Nerf herder.

I don't think it is. Some people get testy about that and even some companies don't want anybody to discuss what they make with any other employee. But the fact is that people who have known salaries and pay rates usually make more than those who don't. If you know what "the other guy" makes, it gives you ammunition to demand your own worth.
