Hi, all,

I recently relocated to the Chicago area and am looking at a property at the Racine/Jackson intersection. Any thoughts about this area? How's the safety? Things to do - restaurants, bars, stores, movie theaters? I also see that there's a few parks near it -- would they be dog friendly? I'm a young professional, but it's looking like I can get a lot more for my money out there than Lakeview/Lincoln Park.

Thanks in advance!

Mary Bartelme at 115 S Sangamon St is very close and has a dedicated dog park. Skinner Park is not officially dog friendly but I don't think that stops a lot of people.

That area has changed a lot since I went to UIC around there from '02-'06. There is a decent amount to do around there, a lot of new stuff has built up around there. Definitely go to Mr. Greek at Jackson and Halsted and get a gyro. And go to Al's and get an Italian beef sandwich.

You have great access to the Blue Line as well as the CTA going north or south on Halsted.

You'll be a a few blocks west of the Target , and just a little further from Marianos, Walgreens , Greektown , and the Randoplh Restaurant corridor. There's a bit more traffic sometimes during Bulls and Hawks games, and the shortcut to the Ike is 1 block south on Van Buren, but not so bad compared to other areas .
