Absolutely, it's happening now and will only get stronger with the economy.

Dream Chaser - when you say recent activity, can you clarify what you mean? What type of activity, etc?

Surely not this --

Moody's cuts ratings for Chicago schools, park district| Crain's Chicago Business March 15 2014

Quote:
Credit ratings for Chicago's public schools and parks took a hit late yesterday, dragged down by the city's rating drop earlier this month. ...its outlook remains negative for both the Chicago Board of Education and the Chicago Park District. ...$6.3 billion in outstanding school-related general obligation debt.
Moody’s downgrades Chicago’s bond rating again|Chicago SunTimes March 5 2014

Quote:
... dropped Chicago’s bond rating another notch, citing “massive and growing unfunded pension liabilities” that “threaten the city’s fiscal solvency” ...in the near term” and for years to come. ...Eight months after ordering an unprecedented triple-drop in the bond rating, ... this time from A3 to Baa1 with a negative outlook.... Chicago’s $32 billion unfunded pension liability is eight times operating revenue. That’s the “highest of any rated U.S. local government,” the rating agency said.

Did some one say "taking off" -- as in heading for places with less hostile taxes:

Please, folks, when you go to polls in November do not endorse the current Governor and his idiotic policies that are killing this state!

it will be fun to watch all the right-wing complainers go silent once the GOP takes control of the governor's mansion and things continue to get worse

The sad reality is that this has very little to do with any "right wing" vs "left wing" ideology. The clear pattern that has existed under governors of both parties is that legislators have allowed the MASSIVE debts to pile up and instead of dealing with promises that they cannot keep with regard to pensions give-aways they've foolishly doubled down on borrowing.

There is little doubt that unless the craven Speaker of the House and his flunky that heads the State Senate (both Democrats that have hand picked the boundaries for legislative districts to ensure they remain in power) face up to the problems that they have presided over THINGS WILL GET WORSE...

Meanwhile states that have addressed the ridiculous give-aways that they realized were hurting their ability to compete for jobs have already seen positive turn-arounds in job growth and budgets -- Wisconsin Gov. Walker touts state manufacturing progress - Milwaukee - Milwaukee Business Journal
Quote:
Wisconsin is one of the top states in the country, not just in numbers of manufacturing jobs but also for manufacturing job growth, Walker said. "Put that in perspective, that's second in the country only to Michigan...and in jobs growth we were number three in the country... It's not just part of our history, it's part of our future because we're growing," Walker said. "And we're growing just about faster than any other state in the country."

The fact is that if the the changes made in Wisconsin were made by a governor that was a member of the Democratic Party or the Libertarian Party or the American Socialist Workers Party or even the Modern Whig Party Modern Whig Party - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that would STILL be the correct way to deal with unsustainable pensions that do more to hurt the state and its ability to remain financially viable than any alleged "harm" to retirees. In fact Wisconsin teachers' pensions are now funded at better than 97% -- Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association

Chicago has over $40 BILLION in debt for the city and CPS! That will CRUSH not just the promised pensions (which directly impacts the financial future of even former teachers like me...) but also necessary city services without which the safety of livability of Chicago will be at major risk!

Do a little research. Think for yourself and DUMP the fools that have created this mess!
