I would rather have small than large population growth; I can only imagine the Eisenhower expressway, backed up constantly, with more traffic at a standstill..............

Chicago -- actually, all of the midwest -- is in a dip. Well, more of a plateau. The sunbelt is in a boom. No denying that's how it is.

The mistake is in projecting trends linearly.

If you count the northwest side, and part of the near south side (i.e. near south side, armour square, bridgeport, douglas, oakland, etc) then it's actually close and the combined homicide rate of the entire area is pretty low.

It may not be harmful but it discloses a major drop-off in growth. It's barely above the ''not going under'' threshold. I understand the growth is growth point though. Chicago, its metro and the State of Illinois need to step it up on the debt issues before bankruptcy becomes an option, especially in Chicago's case.

People, look at the thread title and read the opening post before you post. This thread is not about Tucson or San Diego or Washington, DC. And it's not about crime stats. Numerous off-topic posts have been deleted.

If you want the thread to stay open, post on topic. Thanks.
