OK, in a nutshell:

Southside = not predominently white = not good.
Northside = predominently white = not bad.

That is the way the world views Chicago. I'm leaving out a lot of details but you get the point.

Yeah, seriously. Latinos already outnumber blacks nationwide, and will soon outnumber blacks AND whites in the city.

Wait, I thought that Little Village, Humbolt, Austin, etc. were mostly Westside neighborhoods. That you don't enter the Southside until you pass under the Stevenson Expy, and enter the Northside once you cross North or Fullerton Ave.

Humboldt Park is the largest Puerto Rican community in Chicago, but even in the area around the Paseo Boricua the number of Mexican immigrants outnumber Puerto Ricans.
you do know chicago has the 2nd largest puerto rican population. But as far as the whole state you're right

According to some real estate maps, you enter the southside once you past south of the Little Village. Originally, the city only have two sides: Northside and Southside; madison st. is the dividing line for N streets and south streets. Westside to me is neighborhoods west of the West loop, that sit along the Eisenhoward Expwy.

I grew up on the West Side, I was baptized at Lady of Sorrows and we later lived in Resurrection and St. Catherine's. I graduated from Austin HS in 1966.

I always considered the south boundry of the West Side as the river but the north boundry was more ambiguous, maybe North Ave. but certainly Fullerton.

The old West Side was heavily (south to north) Bohemians, Jews, Irish and Italians (and a small Greek neighborhood at Harrison and Central, not to mention when Greeks lived on Halsted) so when you went north enough to start running into lots of Germans and Poles you knew you were on the North Side. And many made a distinction between the North and Northwest Sides, they certainly had a different feel.

Yeah some would consider it the westside. Little Italy and the once Jewtown(now University Village) aren't south of the Little Village. Its a little confusing, because everytime a news reporter talk about a scene that happen in Pilsen or the Little Village most of the time they say Southwestside, instead of westside. However when it comes to suburban Cicero, they say near west suburb..when Cicero literally borders the Little Village. Lawndale , the Garfield Parks, and Austin are definately westside neighborhoods.
