I don't think Rahm is wonderful or anything, but it's always funny to me how many people are willing to associate him with the most diabolical conspiracies.

Makes no sense? You ever see a historical marker? Re-naming a street is like that.

You know, it informs the ignorant. By the way, I'm against the re-naming, as I was against a previous proposal to re-name the street.

No reason to get personal about all this.

You didn't see it because it is off the major routes. It is behind the houses near 79th street and behind the houses near where it terminates near the bridge near 95th.

The road seems to have been in place for years -- I wondered when they were going to open it up. There's something that looks like a roller derby rink at 87th and Burley. My problem is that I remember Jim Thompson sinking a big chunk of state money into new facilities at the US Steel plan near 79th street. I guess all that money went for nothing.

Work on this road began last April. Hardly "years" in the making.

Yep. I don't think most people know how government works or how hard it is to make a change in some things quickly. I think when someone new takes office in a large population area (whether it be a city, state, or country), the people oddly expect huge changes to happen within a few months which is ridiculous. "Oh, new mayor, okay well why isn't our unemployment rate decreased by 4% in the last 6 months?"

Since he has been in office, Rahm Emanuel has catered to the downtown/north shore crowd, and he makes no apologies about it. Only recently has he been paying a bit more attention to the south side, and it's because people hate him. He is a politician through and through. All this crap about "diabolical conspiracies" are null. One can draw these conclusions easily from past behavior. Give me a good reason I should think differently (please include evidence) and I'll concede.

Are you serious? The planning goes back at least a decade now, and is tied to the redevelopment of the U.S. Steel site, which also goes back at least a decade. It's not like a crew just shows up and starts work on a road immediately.

Previous mayors really didn't give a crap about what happened to the black neighborhoods in the city or were openly hostile to them, and now the problems are deeply entrenched. I don't think Rahm has any clue about how to solve these problems. He certainly cares more than Richard J. Daley about the plights of African American children, but he has no solutions.

All we need are 300,000 well-paying unskilled factory jobs located on the south and west sides of Chicago. That, and ponies for everyone.
