You can buy afford better architecture at $1000/sq ft versus $300/sq ft.

Once upon a time, when I was still thinking about what I might like to do with myself if I ever got out of high school I went to what was ostensibly a little "if you come to our college this is what you could study" day at a not too distant and relatively well know university. One of the "lectures" was by an old and quite odd architecture prof that among other things that I have completely forgotten said something along the lines "if you come here and study architecture people like me will not teach you how to make big expensive buildings that are very pretty, you will learn how to work very hard to do things that no one other than fellow architects will appreciate, using materials that other people would throw away to design things that will outlive you. Or you could go to Princeton, but they don't have as a good a football team as we do..."

I went to a MUCH cheaper school that actually had a better football team.

No, you can make better architecture when you're able to sell it for $1000/sq ft versus $300/sq ft.

How so?! One could argue that Chicago is ahead in some regards but MILES ahead?! What are you smoking? While I prefer Chicagos architecture I wouldn't put it ahead of NYC in regards to diversity and innovation. Aesthetics yes.

Default Losing zeal? Absolutely not

Chicago is not the type of city that has to play "king of the mountain" or "keep up with the joneses". Who the hell cares about other cities are doing? Chicago has magnificent architecture that stands the test of time.

Such a mighty city never loses its "zeal".

For decades, Lexus has been the epitome of quiet quality. This is Chicago. Tesla is the new, unproven kid on the block. Not even close. Tesla is going to have to perform at Lexus's level for decades to warrant comparison.

I prefer the Lexus.

Why would it take decades to decide you like one car better than another?
