There are some beautiful buildings along the lakefront north of Gold Coast/Lincoln Park as Lookout Kid has mentioned, but the majority of them are kind of 70s minimalist from the outside. I'm not a fan of them but since they're condos, some of them on the inside are still very nice.

The area though is great. The only thing I will say is that if you're on Lake Shore Drive and Montrose and on north, it can be kind of shady-ish. It's not necessarily ridden with street crime, but you may get uncomfortable alone at night in a few spots. The target is near the Wilson red stop which again, can be shady but that depends on what you're used to.

The bus also goes right past it..picks up at Irving Park and Broadway..the 36 bus...which runs until 11pm or 12am most nights.

Good to know!

There are several units available in 3950 even now....but for some reason almost all are lower floors. This may be a factor of timing--the higher floors may just have all been scooped up first.

From the high rise thread, I remember several posters saying that you shouldn't live lower than floor 10, but does that apply here due to the way this complex is structured?

Follow up question: There is free parking "on the lake" supposedly--is it actually free and OK to park there around that area?

If it is free, it will likely be very difficult to find a spot.

Street parking in areas in Lakeview can be difficult at times for sure..sometimes you get real lucky though.

OK. Google driving shows a parking lot across from 3950 right by the lakefront. I guess you're right--it seems as it would be a popular spot to park.

That may be a negative, even more so than the low floor thing......parking in that building is on wait list.

If that's the case, you might try to find parking right next door at 655 Irving. There's usually something or other available for rent. Do a search on craigslist or else stop in at the building's front desk and inquire.

Interesting...they do indeed have vacant spots!
