Does anyone have suggestions for a good electronics store either in the area of O'Hare Airport or Melrose Park?

Thanks!

Gosh, thanks for not giving a link to "let me google that for you", at least.
Let's say Google gives irrelevant, and sometimes wrong results.

I would just hop on the Tri-State and head up to Abt.

If you are spending real money on a quality camera I heartily recommend going to either Calument Photo or Central Camera

Central Camera Company

Digital cameras, lenses and photo gear at calumetphoto.com

Either is very easily reached via transit.

Since Helix closed these are the last two "real camera stores" around. Pretty sad...

if you don't mind looking at online shops, there's a very reliable electronic merchant called BH that has a lot of good deals..

nikon d5100| B&H Photo Video

I got my 5100 there as part of one of their bundle (essential) packages.

Central Camera is very pricey. I usually only go there for smaller items such as filters or memory cards. B&H is a good bet. It's where I've gotten most of my gear. Fast, free shipping.

Both Abt and Calumet will gladly match prices of any legitimate online source like B&H .

The ability to actually have a physical store where one get use use the demo models to help choose a camera that literally fits your hands is a huge advantage.

may be but from what i saw on Centrals web site, they didn't offer anywhere near the same selection of cameras and other stuff as BH does. not sure but i think Best Buy may have a better selection than Central did and it's also a brick and mortar.

Central's focus is convenience -- if you need something in the Loop that can be a lifesaver.

The store is crammed to the rafters with all kinds gear.
