I completley agree....it kinda makes me mad, I may be called a Chicago hater, and I am not...but I am realistic and it is really wrong to lead people to believe that things are better than they are. Moving to another city is a huge step, and Chicago is about as "real" as it gets....I mean, its not what I would call an easy place to live, and its not cheap.

Try suburban homes for under $400,000, studios downtown for under a grand, and car insurance for $600. Double everything that person said! You could get a studio in a slightly less desirable north side neighborhood for $600, though. Having just returned from the Bay Area, though, this is dirt cheap in comparison! And you probably could find a suburban home for under $200,000 in a gritty working class south suburb.

Chicago is an adult playground. If your young and single go go go. I spent my 20's and 30's there. great time. kinda miss the fun.

but yea the winter gets old and most are polite but there are many rude people there too.

single? go you will like it. Its a womens paradise. For some reason things are topsy turvey there. You will always have a date.

Where are those huge studios in nice neighborhoods for $600? I'd like to know.

I payed 75 a month for car insurance on an old beater up until about 4 years ago, and I had a perfect driving record ... so I'm not sure what car insurance company is out there offering it for 300 a year. Let me know, I might need a car again if the CTA goes belly-up.

I went to Chicago for a few months for work recently. Personally, I would jump all over it! I absolutely fell in love with Chicago...It is a GREAT TOWN!!! I don't know if you will find a better BIG CITY downtown ANYWHERE!
I'll put it this way, Chicago is the ONLY place in North America that could make me want to leave the South for someplace with cold weather.

Default same dilemma here

I am very happy to find someone who raised the same question that I have - I have been lately considering a move to Chicago from San Fran for a change in life. Condsidering business grad school, buying a place... Transfering with job to Chicago office would not be an issue. I am just afraid to leave behind my life and my friends here. I guess it is just hard to make that first move....Has anyone been into/experienced a similar situation??? Please share. Thank you

Thanks for clarifying that. I thought most Midwestern men tend to get married early?

I did the opposite: moved from Chicago to San Fran, and while I love California, Chicago remains the city most lodged in my heart. It's a good move, IMO.
