Your opinion was contradictory to the facts in that thread.

That article is terrible. The "writer" has no business in the field of writing.

You never provided facts.

Detroit should have a huge sign: "Eat your last good meal now, before you enter Canada", because the food in Canada is so bad, even the Chinese food is awful.
Maybe if you are talking about Windsor only, Vancouver and Toronto have vastly superior Chinese food when compared to Detroit, same is true for Chicago as well.

Detroit over Chicago to visit?! Not knocking Detroit but seriously. He makes some valid points but t the same time is way off on a lot of stuff.

Anyway, loses all credibility when he says Buenos Aires is overrated and instead go to underrated Rio de Janeiro. BA if anything is vastly underrated.

Worst list I have seen in a long time.
First of all, this is pretty much a fluff piece. Also, it points up the state of our media and it's distortions.
Just google "best pizza cities" and look at the variety of personal opinion there.
You never know what motivates a writer - might be political, personal, creating controversy for attention. Stuff like this which goes against the status quo is intriguing and gets people to read it - the bottom line for any author.
The media has always been distorted and has dealt in easy-to-digest cliches. That's why people don't believe Detroit has opera, art, or anything at all worthwhile. It's a cliche image - every city, including Chicago, has it's own thanks to the national entertainment and "news" media, and people are surprised when they visit an area and see something different from what's expected.

I was in Berlin in the late 60's. From the article:
"Berlin is too modern, too sterile, too expensive and too unsure of itself to merit much of your time or money."
Unsure of itself? What the **** does this even mean??

It has a great and interesting history, and has more positive attributes than many people realize (thus the "underrated" comment, which I do agree with). But most tourists looking for a fun extended weekend would find it quite dull, or even somewhat frightening. It's just had too much life and vibrancy sucked out of it.

It would be only marginally better than going to a bed and breakfast in downtown Joliet. Yes, there are sports facilities and casinos, and even a fixed up theater. But after you hit the handful of highlights, then what? An architecture buff or urban blight fetishist would find Detroit endlessly fascinating if they were brave enough to go exploring, but most tourists aren't that adventurous.
If I could bring an armed bodyguard along with me, I'd love to go to Detroit and tour all the ruins firsthand. Some of us weirder types love stuff like that.

I can't speak for the rest of Canada, but I enjoyed some pretty decent restaurant meals during my trips to Toronto.

This guy also thinks Denver, Colorado is a midwestern city. A good writer should at least know basic geography.

By the way, I've now heard everywhere from Utah to Arkansas to Pennsylvania to Texas considered "midwestern". Just getting curious, what parts of the country are NOT midwestern? Is Illinois in this "midwest"?!!
