Will visit this summer and wondering is there a big difference between any of them. The prices vary somewhat. I have heard good things about them and hope they are worth the money. Any recommendations on boat architecture tours?

I've been on all three (CAF, Wendella, Shoreline) and each of them does a fantastic job IMO.

Definitely do a boat tour, you can sign up for one at the AIA office on Michigan I believe if you want one geared towards architecture. Also at the AIA office is a good place to sign up for other walking tours of architecture.

All the boat tours are great, but I think the CAF ones are the best. I've been on a couple Shoreline ones where the tour guide was a little too jokey. It felt like they were auditioning for a stand up gig or something (and failing).

What Attrill said We went in October, definitely the most informative of the tours. Have fun!

The CAF ones will be with a highly-knowledgable docent, so if you want to know you're learning about the actual history and facts and relative importance of things and not just being entertained, that's the obvious choice. It's actually quite difficult to become a tour docent with CAF.

Did a few CAF walking and bus tours and loved them. Took my parents and we got to tour around Frank Lloyd Wright buildings on the south side, etc. Went in some historical lobbies at old buildings in the loop. Certainly a boat tour is best.

If you are in Chicago during the week and don't mind a walking tour, one of the best tours (when available) is the tour of the Chicago Board of Trade:

Chicago Board of Trade The Chicago Board of Trade is one of the most recognizable buildings in the Loop, anchoring the LaSalle Street financial district. Learn the history of this important institution founded in 1848, explore the three buildings that comprise it today and see the agricultural trading floor in action.
PRICE: Adults- $10, Members- Free
DURATION: 1 hour
MEET: Inside building lobby at 141 W. Jackson Blvd. (Please do NOT wait near the Visitors desk or escalators.) Please arrive 5-10 minutes early.

This is the ONLY way that the general public can tour the building or be able to see the trading floor in action.
