Simple as that
But then again Chicago/Democrats havent met a tax they didnt like.
Cigarette taxes are another example.
Quinnyhead raises the tax. well guess what? people are cutting their cigarette taxes in half by jumping over the border to Indiana and buying them.
Illegal Cigarette smuggling is so profitable gangs are getting involved. Plus the penalties are lower.
2nd highest Cigarette tax in the nation really isnt a title to have.

This is the most absurd excuse for logic I've seen in a while.

So in other words, your insight here is "there is nothing we can do about the problem, just deal with the gun-related homicides, Chicago."

I don't think so. This sounds suspiciously like the same bs America hears from the cigarette industry, the coal industry, and every other industry which doesn't factor externalities into the costs of their products.

I think the efforts cracking down on the individual American are what is the problem here.

The crackdown should be directed at the manufacturers. Let these bozos figure out how to embed better tracking information in their guns.

Jesus H. Christ, we can put a tracking chip in a cat, so we can sure do better than a number on a gun that can be scratched off.

Guns are durable and as noted above 300 million are in circulation. Cracking down on manufacturers won't do anything about those.

Criminals are about the most incompetent gun owners that ever walked the planet. Guns are only durable if they are taken care of and cleaned and oiled on a regular basis.

Either way, you are also in the "do nothing" camp, let us know when you have actual solutions to stop the flood of guns coming into Chicago. If there wasn't such a flood, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

This. Doing nothing is not an acceptable solution. I have seen conservatives have fair and honest conversations about this issue (Meghan McCain is actually one of them) but that kind of high-level dialogue seems to be almost entirely missing from most discussions on guns. Both sides have dug in too deep, and people like Ryan running around lying that Obama has made efforts to "take away your guns" (he hasn't) certainly only exacerbates the issue.

Do you really think if all of the guns disappeared that the homicides would stop? They are just a weapon that the criminals are using to commit various crimes. If there is a spike in stabbings, should we ban knives?

Who is supposed to pay for tracking chips placed inside of guns?

"Do Nothing" isn't accurate. Conservatives are all for cracking down on straw purchasers and violent criminals. What % of violent crimes are committed by someone with multiple violent priors? There's no way someone should be able to commit their 5th violent offense before their 60th birthday. But you see it all the time - people with rap sheets a mile long committing another violent offense.

In Illinois you already need a FOID to buy guns and ammo and you need to travel outside of the city to get either. Transferring a gun or ammunition to someone who shouldn't have one is already illegal. Enforce it.

But when 99% of them are responsible gun owners, why should they have to pay more?
