I thought you Chicagoans or prospective Chicagoans might enjoy these two videos I've made in the last couple weeks. I think people thinking about moving to Chicago will especially enjoy them.

This one is a good demonstration of the feel and atmosphere of the Ravenswood/Lincoln Square neighborhood. If you're thinking about moving to that area, I think it would be useful:

My Neighborhood: Ravenswood, Chicago on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/40765321 - broken link)

This one is a video showcasing the character of the El and has some good Chicago footage in general:

The EL on Vimeo

I plan to make a series of videos like this. Eventually I should have videos for Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Oldtown, River North, the Loop, Wicker Park, Logan Square, etc... Enjoy!

Good stuff..I like it. Definitely looking forward to seeing more. My tip too, with everything you're doing there..probably already thought about it but: In the summertime during a nice weekend day, go to the Viagra Triangle in the Gold Coast and shoot the area around Tavern, Gibson's, etc (State, Rush, and Bellvue area). Great vibe there during the summer. The area in the middle with the fountain and coffee/gelato place is interesting. When I first moved here and knew 0 people, I would go out there and relax for maybe 30 minutes/day. So much random crap going on..people having whatever conversations, old italian dudes speaking in italian, beautiful men and women nicely dressed at night going by, etc. Good stuff, especially if you like people watching.

Anyway, good stuff. Should definitely make these more known, especially to people who are looking to move here and figure out what neighborhoods to consider before visiting. There are sites which have neighborhood videos, but they only sometimes do the trick IMO of letting you get a feel for the 'hood.

These videos are great! Thank you for making them. I visit Chicago on a regular basis and hope someday to move there.

Thanks everyone!

They're fun to make and it's fun to shoot in different areas of Chicago while trying to capture their individual atmospheres and aesthetics.

My next one will be Wrigleyville I think. Suggestions for song choices or music genres that capture the feel of Wrigleyville? Definitely won't be the calm, soothing type song I had for Ravenswood, lol.

Definitely worth it especially if you capture the atmospheres and aesthetics of each neighborhood. The lenses you have look pretty nice too (Zeiss..nice).

We were kind of talking about this in another thread, but making videos highlighting other areas of Chicago for visitors and potential future residents looking to move here (not just Michigan Ave, Millennium Park/Grant Park like a lot of vids do). These would be a nice starting point for that ;-)

Anyway, for Wrigleyville, personally I think of the area as half frat boy central (sorry if I offended anybody), but who knows..I would suggest something along those lines but don't want your vids to get taken down somewhere for using a song without a record label/artist's permission.

Yeah, a little more variance would be good.
Just trying to help on getting more appeal.

I'll definitely be filming there during the summer. Thanks for the suggestion.

Awesome idea. I'm a huge pizza guy and I actually worked at Lou Malnati's for a year so I'm aware of all the competition around, both big and little businesses.

If your intent is to really portray the cultural range of Chicago, you may want to mix in at least 2 or 3 of the following: South Loop, Bronzeville, Pilsen, Greek Town, Chinatown, Bridgeport, Hyde Park, South Shore, Beverly, etc. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!
Yeah, you're absolutely right. If my neighborhoods listed are North-centric it's because I live up there and ride my bike or go on the El through all those neighborhoods. Make videos fro the neighborhoods you listed would be an awesome way to showcase the variety Chicago has to offer. Out of what you listed, and if I had to pick two, I think Chinatown and Hyde Park would be good choices.

Will do! I'll be making these videos slowly over the next year so I'll keep variety in mind. Some of those apartment hunting websites might be interested in the videos I make too for their websites and what not so the more variety the better.

You won't offend me at least. I'm definitely not the frat boy type, and there are plenty of those douchey characters in Wrigleyville, but there's also a cool, collectively happy atmosphere there in the summer after Cubs games, win or lose, and that's probably what I would focus on when making that video. Not somewhere I'd choose to live, but I'm sure many sports/baseball fans would see the footage and think that's the place they'd want to be.
