I get the impression that when some people think about "artists" they either think about some hipster like character that lives in his own social bubble, some stereotypical emotionally imbalanced personality also stuck in his own bubble, or some uppity snob that rub shoulders with and sells is decorations to some 1%er... There are many kinds of "artists" out there that do my types of projects, many of which are not made to be products for a market... To assume that ALL artists make little difference in affecting very real change against the "ruling class" would be a mistake. "Artists" affect change through a variety of ways, from individual and group projects, to teaching... Art today cast such a wide net, and exists in so many forms... it's impossible to make blanket statements about ALL "artists".

That should bode well for the area.

Rather than creating a new thread, thought I would ask my question here....

I go to the TriBeCa film festival in NYC every year, and was wondering how the Chicago independent film festival is. Has anybody been? Ive gotten mixed reviews from a few acquaintances I know.

Never heard of it, but the Chicago International Film Festival, every October, is excellent...

"Now in its 47th year, the Chicago International Film Festival is the longest-running competitive film festival in North America... In 2010, the Festival showcased the work of the world’s top filmmakers and fresh talent alike, presenting more than 150 films from 50 countries. "

In terms of quality of particapents? Or prestige? For the viewer, only the first matters. For the aspiring film maker trying to get recognised, both matter.
