I am kind of a unique, different, liberal, 57 year old male,
hippie, left over from the past.
THIS IS NOT A PERSONALS AD

I am moving to Chicago and will be using the "L" and buses
at night. Will use public transportation up to 11PM.
Safety is important

I have $40,000 to spend for a one bedroom condo.
Not seeking a luxury building, but prefer an elevator building.
I really enjoy cultural and ethnic diversity, walkable neighborhoods.

Want to be close to major universities, colleges. I will use the red, purple,
and brown "L" lines the most.
Will not be working.

I am considering Edgewater. Do not need or want to be close to the Loop.
What other ares on the Northside should I consider?

I seek liberal areas but not primarily yuppie or singles areas.
Any suggestions? THANK YOU!!

If you're willing to move a bit NW, to the "West Ridge" section of Rogers Park, a nice, suburban-like location (with reasonably good public transit options), there are 1 BR apartments for just under $40,000 in one or two of the Winston Towers buildings. A great value. Elevator buildings. Handicap access. Vans that take people to the grocery stores without charge, etc.You can see other listsings in the Edgewater neighborhood when you use the www.realtor.com property search site which presents for sale opportunities.

I posted this thread.
Look at Find Real Estate, Homes for Sale & Houses for Rent on Realtor.com - Realtor.com® and see fifty or more properties
in Edgewater for under $40,000
Dont' make assumptions before looking at the prices today.

averageperson. The condo market has really crashed on the northside. The main zipcodes in Edgewater are 60640 and 60660 (some of those zips may overlap other areas). You probably already have that info.

You could also search 60613 which for the most part is Uptown and immediately south of Edgewater. You might find something along N Marine Drive which is safe and across from the park.

Also, you might consider southern Rogers Park, 60626, around the Loyola Red Line stop. It is immediately north of Edgewater. However, not as many elevator buildings in that area as Edgewater.
