I beleive most of those addresses would fall into the atendance area of Ogden School, a fairly large k-5 facility that once was primarily serving children in the near north CHA projects. Its borders are irregular, stretching from North Av east of Frankline but only portions east of Michigan Ave and north of Monroe.

According to Illinois Interactive Report Card the school did not make Adequate Yearly Progress -- http://iir.niu.edu/School.aspx?schoolID=150162990252380 (broken link)

You can verify addresses against attendance boundaries at School Locator Page - Department of School Demographics and Planning

He is a very smart little guy already and ahead in many ways so Im not to worried that the last 2 months will make a huge difference.
Thanks!

I think it would be very wise of you to investigate the potential strategies that be open to you by instead of utiizing corporate housing using the Illinios law regarding residents of hotels. Without giving away too amny secrets the potential to use this as means of getting into a school that otherwise would not be open to you may be a wise way to line up things not just for the reminder of kindergarten but also for first grade.

btw I would also conside HOW you kindergartener will get to school -- this is potentiall a deal killer...

Ogden was THE top elementary school in Chicago before the gifted schools came around. Also, Ogden always had such a diversity of income levels with students from co-ops and high rises on north LSD and other high end streets to some lower income students. Ogden was always historically racially and ethnically diverse. I was going to suggest Ogden to the OP, due to the new school building now with K-12; and an easy walk from the Superior address. I think the new school is open now.

The "gifted schools" programs in CPS have existed since the desegration decree of 1980. There have been many many schools over the years that have far better perforance than Ogden School...

Yes, it is. I walk by it every day on my way to work. It seems like a mixed group of kids, racially and economically.

The CPS site is where you should go to find school attendance boundaries and basic information on each school (school type, demographics, programs, etc.). The Trib has put together a decent tool for searching state test scores and other data.

Two other sites that are helpful in understanding how CPS works are CPSobsessed and NPN. The NPN forums are well worth the price of membership.

Well, I was speaking from personal experience which culminated in the late 1970's regarding Ogden. I don't remember any stand alone gifted schools at that time, though of course there were specialized programs; informally and I'm sure formally. Makes sense about the desegregation decree in 1980, didn't know about that.
