Hello to All!

I would like to aks all CPS teachers/Principals what is the best way to obtain a job in CPS. For example, personally visiting schools and dropping of resumes, phone calls, or sending out emails?

Basically, what worked for you current teacher in CPS!

Thanks

Whoa. Not being incredibly reactionary on a public forum that is searchable by potential employers might be a start. She was just being tongue and cheek.

Hmm well...I tried lol...

I'm actually pretty happy I have no reason to look for employment within CPS. I just wish for better days ahead for Chicago youth...being nasty with me shows you are a little immature

The maturity level that many young teachers and teachers-to-be have is amazingly juvenile. No wonder why so many of the youth they teach are morons.

Sadly, I get grouped into that moronic pool of people, although I am nothing like them...

FWIW, from May to July of thsi year, I was pretty relentless on sending out my resume and doing applications for CPS. Obviously, the overall volume of positions posted was pretty weak. My findings seemed to show that the process is very distant and clear cut; apply for the position, send the resume, get a response from HR saying, "we received all of your materials; don't call or email back- we'll get in touch with you."

In the rare chance I did try to call and find out any info, I was met with some resistance. "Please refer to the CPS HR website; it clearly states no calls."

Anyhow, the fact that you're seeking elementary jobs is a challenge. I'm sure they told you that in the program though. My advice to you is the same you've heard before; make sure your resume is great. List all of your educational experience. I volunteered a couple of summers working for the special education recreation camps. I also coached youth sports. Make sure you let them know that you've done that sort of thing, if possible.

It's all about differentiating yourself from everyone else. If you can get that interview, you'll be in a much, much better position to get the job.

Education has been crazy lately. When you couple tax cuts (which pay for education) with older teachers not retiring, you get this backed up pool of candidates. When I first started studying education about 4 years ago, I never thought that I'd be facing competition from up to 600 other qualified candidates.

Good luck.

Default teaching jobs in Chicago?

So, we've hit all the district websites and turned in a bunch of apps online and the phone hasn't been ringing.

The wife has an M.A. + 60 units and has taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. Location is unimportant, but will be commuting from the OPRF area...

Any tips?

Default Realistically...

Many districts, including Chicago, have very poor grip on the actual numbers of students that will show up until a few DAYS of the start of class.

Put in an application to the less desirable districts and they just might all call at once..
