I currently live in Wicker Park and am thinking about taking a job in Franklin Park. It looks like I can take North to Mannheim, or 90 to Irving Park Road. I know 90 can get backed up at times, but it seems like south of Irving Park it is better.

Does anyone experience this commute. Is Irving Park slower moving than North Ave?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Have you considered Metra Milwaukee West line? Board at Western and Grand, it goes right to Franklin Park.

I really doubt that taking surface streets like North Ave to Grand would save any time -- lots of congestion.

Heading up Milwaukee to Irving Park and then back down Forest Preserve Drive won't buy time either.

Even taking the Kennedy to like River Rd and then trying to bomb back down to Franklin Park is going to burn time...

If you play around with routes you may find that the particular time that you are on the road vs when intersections jam up / buses slow things down MIGHT give a 5 minute of so faster travel time, but all in all for a total trip of probably about 10 miles of linear roads you will probably be fortunate to go door-to-door in under 30 minutes. Last time I checked my GPS driving a route like that I think the average MPH was under 17...

If I could be door to door in about 45 minutes that wouldn't be so bad. Do you think it is best to just take the Kennedy ... I know it gets pretty bad the closer you get to the airport :/

I drove home from the edge of the city once on Grand in the late evening and absolutely flew down it.

There's no magical road with no traffic.

I've taken North, Grand, and Irving from and towards Franklin Park

They're all a long way. Grand has many stoplights since it's a smaller street.
North and Irvin.. are about tie.
But North ave. from thatcher to like Austin gets congested
