Lakeview isn't DB central, Naperville is. Lakeview has DB's though. Most places have some.

So after looking at apartments online this evening... he's upping his rent max to about $1500 or so. What are your thoughts on living inside the south loop area? There are many cool highrises that would probably be a good fit. I've been to Chicago several times and have only stayed downtown and think it's cool to walk down Michigan Ave to all the shops and restaurants.

The south Loop is a happening area and has reasonable access to Whiting.

That still does not solve the problem of no pick-up trucks on LSD. He is going to have to pay through the nose for parking too.

The Dan Ryan to the Skyway is expensive but it is ridiculously quick to Whiting. Or, one could drive all the way around on I-94 (Ryan and the Bishop Ford) to Indianapolis Bvld. then four miles north to Whiting. Either way, trucks are fine.

Or, drive the truck down the Dan Ryan to 63rd to MLK to South Chicago to the 95th st. bridge to Ewing to Whiting. That way is slower but open to trucks and cheap.

Yes there are many alternate routes for people who know the southside
but a guy coming from dallas fort worth may not know the ins and outs of the streets

obviously you know your way around from your posts
I would urge the person to visit the area obviously before coming here

and to the original poster dont let anyone else talk you into moving into indiana there is not any place in northwest indiana that compares to lakeview (none)
zero , notta , zilch....

dont let the bs you into thinking the indiana burbs are anything in comparison to the city you will be very disappointed

The South Loop is an up and coming area but not so much of a "neighborhood" as you would find in Lincoln Park and Lakeview. There are a lot of new high rise buildings in the South Loop.

Thank you all very much for your input. I know several of you are saying that the Dan Ryan is very expensive because of the tolls, but about how much would it cost (one way) from the South Loop area to Whiting?
