I aspire to be a young, successfull professional in the next 5 years and would love to live in a city like Chicago. I also like New York if I could cope with it but i've been living in London for 2 years so I suppose i could

If I said that i'd love to have roomates and share a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment in Chicago with a budget of 4000 to 6000 dollars between all roomates. I also love running and exercising so an are with a little park would be nice. I also like the nice cafes and bars and I find it easy to talk to people I'd also like a place were it is easy to meet girls

What is the best area for that and why?

There are a billion threads about this - did you do a search? Are you talking $2,000 each? That's a huge budget, you could probably live anywhere. Lincoln Park tops the usual list for that type of thing.

Are you a US citizen? If not, it can be very tough to get a work visa here.

At that budget you could probably live wherever you want in Chicago. If you want access to good places to run, live by the Lake and you'll be in heaven running along the Lake Front Trail whenever you want, alongside the beaches and parks. Lincoln Park and Lakeview are the places to check out for easy lake access and both are very young neighborhoods a majority of its inhabitants being under 35 years old. Both neighborhoods have tons of bars and good nightlife. Lakeview is cheaper than Lincoln Park.

What a coincidence! I also aspire to be young and successful and have a $1,333 to $3,000 budget for rent five years from now. And to become a ninja.

Yeah, read the stickies, search the forum. Or just move to Lincoln Park like everybody else.

When my father was a young professional we lived at Monroe and Kedzie. See how that works out for you.

How about Chicago and Wabash. I recommend hanging out there and taking a stroll to get a feel for the neighborhood.
