Do you drive?
I take the 6. But that time doesn't include walking, so it's probably a little longer.

20 minutes if I take the bus (5 minutes of walking, 15 minutes of riding)
19 minutes if I take the "L" (10 minutes of walking, 3 minutes of waiting, 6 minutes of riding)
25 minutes if I walk
10 minutes if I take a cab (3 minutes walking/hailing, 7 minutes riding)

40-45 minutes. 6 minute walk to the L, Red Line from Sheridan to Belmont, Brown line to Merch Mart, walk across the river to Lake/Wacker.

I don't mind the little walks at all, and I just read on the train/while waiting for the train - so I actually like my commute just fine.

40-45 minutes here as well. Bike/drive to Metra 20 minute or so train ride, 10 minute walk to office. If would be quicker if I didn't need to get to the lot 10 minutes before the train to guarantee a spot. Now that the weather is nicer, I'll be riding my bike all the way downtown. Depending on the lights it's quicker than the train, and a nice 10 mile ride in the morning is a great way to start my day.

My job last year, I commuted from the near southside (Back of the Yards area) to around Park ridge. Outbound Kennedy at 7AM sucks... took almost 2 hours door to door.

My previous job, my commute was about 35 minutes, 15 minutes walking to the El, and 20 on the train. I was the same way, I didn't mind the little walks and I enjoyed my time on the train as I was able to sit and relax.

Now my commute is an hour which sucks! The problem now is I use only two buses to get around, which are always packed with high school students and then I can't read because I get dizzy when I read in cars or buses. So sometimes I feel my time is wasted which is why I am riding my bike soon to work. Shorter commute, save money and get some more exercise.
