My God, any daily driving commute between HP and central Chicago, would be an abomination. Your husband better like the inside of his car, because he wil be living in it for nearly 2-1/2 to 3 hours a day.

Metra is the only sane choice here. Unless you can afford a helicopter.

Yes, Willie is a bit over the top, but Hanover Park is deceptively difficult commute from most anywhere -- lackmof direct access to a true expressway means you are going against the flow on surface streets and secondary routes which really slows things down. Honestly you can get further out considerably quicker for towns with better access to true expressways...

The suggestions for "compromise" neighborhoods strikes me as a little odd too -- how exactly would this work? Instead of just one you have an atrocius commute one would be a wee bit less horrible but the other would be head "home" past all the hip places with actual fun places to enjoy for what? So you can then both backtrack your tired and frazzled selfs back to a fun area via public transit or fight for parking? I say either bite the bullet and go whole hog in the hippest spot you can find and use that either motivate hubby to get job in a more conenvient locale or ditch the fantasy and move someplace that makes for short commute.

Besides, people that are really hip can be hip living in Hanover Park. Though I think it's been since about 1959 that anyone's been really "hip" anyhow but that's another story.

Thanks!! This is what I was thinking too! I heard that the reverse commute can be a pain. We are lucky in that he leaves at about 5:30 am and is out of work by 3:45 - 4:00... so will hopefully beat most of the traffic.

Currently he has an hour and 15 commute from where we are... so he doesnt mind the drive. Thanks!!

He'll be fine in the morning, but the drive home will be long. Rush hour has absolutely started by then. Sounds like he's used to a long commute, so best of luck with the move!
