Hi. I have a job offer in Hammond IN and i would much rather live in Chicago for the social life. Is there any way that I would be able to do the commute from the city? Which neighborhoods would be best for this? I've read on this site that Lincoln park would be a good place for someone in their 20s. What are some other ones?

South Loop would make your commute so much easier. It is not far from Hammond, maybe 30 minutes tops going to Hammond, a little more going back into the city depending on traffic. Though where it bogs down you could exit and take State Street all the way home.

Lincoln Park is not a good option unless you want to sit on the 90/94/Dan Ryan forever.

One can take LSD to Hammond as well. If traffic is reasonable, the trip from Lincoln Park will take 5-10 minutes more tops than a trip from South Loop.

If you happen to choose either Lake View or South loop I'd suggest takin LSD (lake shore drive btw). Depending on where you work in hammond you may have to go on the 90 again

Well considering the fact that Hammond, Indiana literally borders with the city of Chicago it should be very easy to find somewhere to live in the city that is easy for you to commute to.

In addition to the aforementioned south loop also take a look at Hyde Park, a very urban and interesting neighborhood with very good access to both downtown Chicago and areas north as well as being quite close to Hammond.

Traffic is never that reasonable during rush hour, unless maybe it's a government and banking holiday.

That goes without saying, but of course the OP did not say what hours they would be on it.

Default Lincoln Park to Hammond Commute options

I am moving to the Lincoln Park area and am working at St. Margaret Mercy hospital in Hammond, IN. I plan on taking the south shore line into hammond. Is there a way to get from the hammond station to the hospital? Or any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Not to rain on your parade, but I don't think this is possible. I'm not exactly certain where in Hammond the hospital is, but even if you could find some way to get from the metra station to the hospital, you're still looking at easily a two hour commute each way each day. Just getting from Lincoln Park to Union Station would easily be a half hour or more and then another 45 minutes on the train.
