The DO have a target, but that is only because the loop wouldn't allow a discount store to be built, abut ALAS, we are finally gonna get our own here in the loop not far from me! YAY.

BTW I do not like Michigan Ave. It is like a free for all! I will keep shopping on state and keep my local crazies over crazy tourists that are drawn to MA.

Oh, and hailing a cab in south loop after dark is damn near impossible. Where as there's always a line of cabs waiting outside my building. Honestly though, if these things in s loop improve, I will for sure re-evaluate and think of heading south, but for now, my location is ideal. Most of my s loop friends end up meeting up at my place when heading out.
Some of the places down there have "taxi lights" for some of the amenity buildings.

A great example would say be something like slapping a 'West Bucktown' or 'West Wicker Park' name on a residential building west of Western Ave., or slapping the Logan Square neighborhood name on a building that's actually in Humboldt Park.

Enough continuing with this post, y'all understand my point by now. And after reading some above posts, maybe that 'New East Side' name isn't as weird as I first thought. I still don't like how darn similar it sounds to 'East Side', which is an actual neighborhood on the southeast side of Chicago, and north of Hegewisch.
I think they are actually a lot more bold than that in listings. I.E. Humboldt park and list it as Wicker Park, no "west" about it. or Lakeview, and it is in Uptown, etc.

Now that I think about it slightly more, you're right that realtors are so bold that they don't give a flying f---, and will label places say in Humboldt Park something like Logan Square or Bucktown.

As for Uptown, least as far I know, if a realtor didn't want to label something as Uptown(and I understand many still are reluctant, since that neighborhood is still trying to overcome a long-standing negative reputation with some), they should at the minimum label whatever condo/house/etc. they're selling as the neighborhood subname, say like Sheridan Park, Buena Park, Margate Park, etc.

Define "real". I see plenty of restaurants and taverns in the South Loop. Places with live music too. They sure as Hell look real to me.

My pet peeve (well one of many actually) is rubes and real estate people calling Taylor St. "Little Italy".

I would say, arguably, the best live venue for blues is in the south loop at Buddy Guy's.
There are also a few of the best Irish Bar's if you go down a little bit on wabash/michigan. Printers Row has several bars as well, Hackney's, Casey's, Villains plus others in the area.
M Lounge has a pretty swanky jazz venue if you are into that.
Most of the places are a little bit of an older crowd, so I guess you are out of luck if you are looking for the fresh out of college crowd. Or in college, say at Columbia, you might be out of luck.
Yes it can't compare with a lot of the other neighborhoods in quantity. But I would argue some of the other neighborhoods are loaded with crap and serious dives (in the bad sense of the term). Or worse, fake dives that cater to hipsters from the suburbs who are too scared to go to the REAL dives where you might get your teeth punched out by Jimbo or a local homeless guy who scrounged enough money up for a 2 dollar knottyhead.

You're right. "real" was not what I was actually trying to get across so let me just say this. S Loop is AWESOME, but is still being built up. You will not find a street FULL of bars and restaurants. There are a few places I go, that are awesome, but they are spread out and often times you will need to take a cab or other transport to go from one place to the other.

I am not bashing the S Loop at all, but it is still much farther from certain nightlife that has been referred to in this thread so far.

The term "east side" for that area is totally wrong. There is already an "east side" of Chicago. Hegewich, not only has been called the "east side" for decades, but is the actual geographic, east side of Chicago, together with just about everything east of Yates Blvd.
