That is only because the county is broke and spends our money unwisely.

Never heard of the neighborhood "West Lake."

What the did was create non-existent neighborhood name for a census tract that has a crime problem.

That's definitely a great point, but it's still nice to hear that we're closing in a 45 year low for total #'s. It's also nice to see overall crime is down (car theft aside ) fom the past couple years.

"The sheriff said a drop in arrests, particularly in Chicago, was the principal reason for the jail's population decline."

The understaffed CPD can't arrest as many offenders and suspects as in years past.

When fewer crimes are committed, they're are fewer people to arrest. In the 90's when there were more crimes committed, more people were arrested and jailed.

When there are less cops on the street less people get arrested. You need to look beneath the surface figures.

The neighborhood crime data are compiled using "proprietary algorithms"

This must be to crime statistics what sabremetrics is to baseball statistics. I wonder what the BABIP is for the average ordinary Gangster Disciple in that hood.

The surface figures tell the story. Less crime equal less arrests. More crime equal more arrests.
