Last night at 10 PM, I was at Irving and lake shore Dr. There was a copter with his spotlight on flying along north and south along the lake front path.

You see a copter along the lake, assume someone fell in. They won't call in a police copter for something small like that, where you don't have a centralized suspect.

I dunno, I was at North Ave. beach 2 weeks ago playing catch with some buddies after work when we saw a bunch of teens suddenly rush onto 1 area near Castaways/volleyball nets. We were about 200-300 yards up the beach, so we couldn't really tell what was happening, but the police came right away and swept everyone, hundreds and hundreds, off the beach around 7:45. I don't know what happened exactly, and I don't think anyone got hurt, but as we were walking down North, I heard kids screaming something about knives being pulled. I don't think it was gang-related per se, but just a bunch of crappy punk kids.
I agree though, I don't think a helicopter would be indicative of some gang brouhaha at Irving Park and the lake.

I've noticed police copters with spots along the lake for a couple of weeks now. First time I noticed was a couple of weeks ago when I went out to the Planetarium to observe the full moon.

There are so many helicopters buzzing around here that I hardly notice them. The ones that **** me off are the traffic helicopters that show up at 6:00 a.m. and make a lot of noise. Go away!

No idea... but I live near Irving and LSD and right now there's this helicopter that's been circling around and around for the past hour or so -- not right along the lake, but several blocks inland. I keep seeing it from my window and the noise is bugging me whenever the thing gets close.

Turn on your TV. That's the Wrigleyville coverage of the Hawks celebration. The news copters are there, as well as one from the Chicago Fire Department. There are like a gazillion people screaming in the streets. I'm glad my car is parked indoors tonight!
