I currently live in the city, and am considering a job offer in Schaumburg (if it matters, when I map it, the office shows up as being in the very north part of Schaumburg, near Hoffman Estates).

I don't want to commute from the city to Schaumburg, so am planning to move toward the western suburbs and am considering Elmhurst as an option. I like the village feel of Elmhurst, the schools seem good and the property taxes seem decent.

Does anyone have a feel for how long the commute from Elmhurst to Schaumburg would take? I've plugged it in to Google maps, so have a general idea, but would like to hear from someone who actually drives it. I'll do a test drive myself at some point, but living in the city, it's not very convenient to get out there to do a test drive in morning/evening rush hour.

Thanks!

The bad news is that the current road re-surfacing on that route (which I have been doing daily lately) is DRAMATICALLY increasing travel times. What should be LESS THAN 30 minutes or so is currently taking nearly DOUBLE that.

The good news is that I think you can expect that travel time to return to something far more tolerable once the resurfacing is done. The overall capacity of the roads in that corridor is probably sufficient to handle normal peak volumes, but the disruption of SO MANY arterial roads and the expressway at the same time is creating HAVOC...

Elmhurst has a much more walkable feel than Schaumburg and I am sure that you will appreciate the schools. In comparison to the hoops that you need to jump through in Chicago there has been a effort to make all the schools in Elmhurst Community Unit District desirable...
