Not sure if this thread is still being looked at, but here is a program in Naperville District 203 (one of the best districts in the state). Dual Language - Naperville Community Unit School District 203

I was looking into this, but my husband works in Palatine and the commute is a headache

I live in Naperville and think it is a wonderful place to live. We love it here. We have two schools with dual language programs here, Maplebrook Elementary and Beebe Elementary. The program at Beebe is open only to kids who live nearby (kids who would normally attend Beebe as their home school), while Maplebrook is a magnet school that kids from other parts of town can attend. There's a lottery every year, and I think there were a few hundred kids on the list to get in last year.

One of the big catches is that kids are supposed to start the program by kindergarten. They might add a few in first grade, because they will lose some kids as they move away or drop out of the program for whatever reason. But after first grade, the "doors" are closed.

If your son is still little, you might be able to get in. If he is older (second or third grade) but has been attending a dual language program, you might talk to the administrators and see about getting in. They won't take a kid who hasn't been learning Spanish because he won't be able to catch up, but perhaps they'd consider one who is on course with the others. This is a pretty new program here, so we don't have classes yet for kids who are beyond the third grade (I think). Those kids started the year they began it here, and the district adds a new teacher each year as those kids move up.

Talk to Julie Knight in the Dual Language office. She also might know about similar programs throughout Chicagoland. I've heard Schaumburg has had a program for several years now with excellent results.
