Just ate at the restaurant in Bolingbrook. Was excited because the decor is so well done, as is the tank behind the bar.
Walleye (catch of the day) fishy- more like "sell this fish".
Grouper Reuben was a good idea but fell short of the mark, too. When I was diving in Marathon Key, there was a shack that sold lobster reubens. Sounds strange, but oh so good.
Was expecting this to be a cousin of sort, but no cigar.

Anyone else eat there?

The mother ship is in Springfield, Missouri. The fish tank is eye candy to sell boats, trailers and all types of outdoor wear and gear. The restaurant was a 10 year after the fact experiment. Bass Pro pulls a semi-flat bed sized aquarlium to local fishing events it sponsors in the mid-west. I don't know how successful it is. It's been downstate a couple of years. .

The restaurant in BPS Bolingbrook is unique. I have been to many BPS stores in the US and Canada and never seen one like it. The tank in the restaurant is saltwater and nothing to do with the standard BPS fish tank in the main building.

The food was good, plentiful and hot....

Enjoy the store, the hunting and fishing equipment is first rate.

We spent about 300 dollars, between drinks, dinner and fishing/camping supplies. Bought my first ever chest waders. LOL.
Anyway, my husband and I love the tank and the bar. I think next time we will have drinks and appetizers and skip the dinner. Walleye is not supposed to taste "fishy" and the grouper was fried a bit too long. Maybe it was an off day for them.

YUP, I always think of retail stores when I'm going through my list of good fish restaurants
Lets see, I'm craving Swedish Food, think I'll go to IKEA.
Mmmm, some fresh venison sounds tasty-I'm heading to Cabela's for supper.
Really, they are there more for convenience, to keep you from leaving the store because of food crabiness and perhaps to give employees decent, quick meals. You can't really expect it to be fine dining. AND fish is finicky in regards to freshness and preparation. Head to Bob Chinn's in Wheeling for some tasty seafood. They fly it in fresh every day and draw huge crowds to turn over inventory very quickly. I have also had decent fish at Outback's.

Speaking of which, did you hear Cabela's in Hoffman Estates is closing their second floor?! Yep - the county taxes are so high, and they charge per used retail space. Yikes - their taxes were going to be a million a year. They halved them by closing the upstairs I am hearing.
It was SUCH a bad move to build that beautiful store in Cook county.

I've never been to a Bass Pro Shop, but I have a brother-in-law who is an outdoorsy person who loves it, however, not for food. He's complained about the food quality the couple of times he's eaten there (in addition to being a hunting/fishing sort of guy, he also likes a good restaurant). But as cubssoxfan pointed out, expecting a gourmet meal in a place like Ikea or Bass Pro Shop would be a bit much.

Why would I expect a gourmet meal? I was expecting FRESH FISH because, well, it's a place for fishermen! That's all. Fresh.

Well Jill, fish is trickier to keep fresh (IMO) than beef, chicken or pork. So rule of thumb is to order fish in a restaurnat that either specializes in fish, focuses on keeping their food fresh or has a high amount of traffic to turn over inventory quickly. Better yet, find one with all 3. Bass Pro doesn't come to mind for any of these. Not to be mean, but I couldn't help thinking "What were you expecting"
