Guyz,

Need your help!!

I recently took up a job in Schaumburg, IL area. But I currently live in Racine, WI. I'm not planning to move for another year due to my children and wife’s job. How commutable is Racine to Schaumburg everyday? Any tips? Advice?

Thanks,
Josh

Racine to Schaumburg? Yikes!!!! Expect a good 1-2 hour commute each way, maybe more on some days.

Steve,

WHen I was there for interview it took me an hour 15 minutes when I started from Racine at 8:00 in morning. While coming back in the afternoon...same thing. Although, I don't know if that represents everyday situation.

Are there any times during the day that I need to avoid to keep my commute limited to 2.5 hours/day?

Thanks,
Josh

1 hr and 15 isnt that bad, must have been light traffic. If there is a bad accident or some new construction, be prepared for at least 2 hours Id imagine. Does your wife take 355 into Schaumburg?

Yes.

I-94E - Exit at LakeCook Rd - then IL 53S - to exit on IL-62

Total commute is about 60 miles.

Is there a different/better way?

You might want to try I-94 to I-294 South to I-90 West - that will have more tolls, but it might be faster since it's all expressway driving. I can't be sure of that, though.

That's actually a good route. I'd avoid 90 at all costs.

90 usually isn't too bad west of 294, though the inbound can get kind of clogged as it runs into airport traffic. My primary concern with doing the 94/294/90 route is that you end up going quite a bit further south than you need to and have to head back north to Schaumburg. I'd say the route you're taking now is probably the best. You're only on Lake-Cook for about 6 miles before hitting 53, which is then, for all intents and purposes, an expressway all the way down to Schaumburg.

I live in hoffman estates and what you can do if its cost efficient is you can look into purchasing a house out here and stay there during the week if there is a day you just dont want to drive. then next year you already have the house and the schools out here are really good. plus, i am a nanny so i can talk to you regarding care for your kids while you're working.

contact me for more info if you would like.
