The DuPage Theatre has been torn down, a handful of new condos have been built, but the restaurant and retail presence is basically zero. What's next for downtown Lombard? There are still plenty of large, affordable houses within a few blocks of the train station, which is something you can't say for many of the towns along that Metra line.

Is downtown Lombard a good investment? What kind of development do you think it will see over the next 10 years?

Lombard has always been a decent town/city, but is definitely heading in the right direction. Its a good, diverse, safe town with lots to do and is cheaper than nearby Wheaton. Yes, I think Lombard is a good investment.

Lombard is nice, but their downtown needs work. they shouldn't have torn down that theatre. Idiots.

In this economy? Probably the same as it is now.

Unfortunately, this is probably the reality of the situation.

I would not be so sure. Lombard gets a lot of sales tax revenue from the retailers at York Town and a good bit from the car dealers in town too. They have a more diverse set of income than all but a handful of other DuPage towns and have shown a willingness to invest for the long term. The decision to tear down the theater was not taken lightly and the town has have a legitimate and active program to assist in developing / improving properties in the area.
Of course they do balance this against current needs and try to serve residents with a wide variety of programs, but overall the trend is pretty positive.

Personally I think it will be very similar to what it is now. There will probably be some changes new things coming in, some things going out. I think it will be stable.

It will be boarded up and inhabited by squatters with sniper rifles. You will need an armor-plated vehicle to even consider visiting. And no one will care because the rest of Lombard will be bulldozed to make way for giant trash incinerators, chemical plants, and a soylent green factory. But not to worry... We'll have Robocop to restore order.

Anyone with me? No?

And there will be a huge Biff's Casino mixed in with all that? Has someone been watching Back To the Future 2?
